Hazardous Wastes | Many
products found in your home, because of their chemical nature, are potentially
hazardous substances. When discarded, they are considered household hazardous
waste. It is illegal to dispose of household hazardous waste in the trash, down
storm drains, or onto the ground.
Many common household products are considered
household hazardous waste when they are discarded. The following are examples
of these products:

In order to keep household hazardous
wastes out of the municipal waste stream and promote proper disposal of hazardous
wastes, the Kings Waste
& Recycling Authority (KWRA) maintains a permanent Household Hazardous Waste
facility adjacent to the Materials Recovery Facility at 7803 Hanford-Armona
Road in Hanford. Free household hazardous waste disposal services are available periodically at the facility. If interested, please call KWRA to be put on a call back list for the next event. This service is available only
to the residents of Kings County. Please adhere to
the following guidelines when bringing household hazardous wastes to the permanent
facility or temporary locations:
- Please make sure products are in the
original container, sealed, labeled and not leaking.
- Do not mix products.
- Limit
your load to 5 gallons or 50 pounds per visit.
- Do not bring Compressed
gas cylinders, radioactive materials, explosives, metallic mercury, infectious
wastes, or commercial wastes.
